Veteran's Day 2012: The Hugs Project

Today is Veteran's Day.  I can't think of a more selfless group of people to kick-start my blog in support of.  Our military members work hard to ensure freedom for us every single day.  I can't imagine how different America would be if we didn't have so many soldiers fighting and shedding their blood for us.  Every time I see a military member in uniform, I get a real sense of pride.

The Hugs Project is an Oklahoma City-based non profit 501 C 3 organization that was started in 2004 by Ray and Karen Stark.  The original focus of the organization was to send cooling neck ties to the troops stationed in the Middle East.  The focus has evolved to sending care packages to the troops.  One thing that many people are naive about in regards to the troops is how hot and grueling the conditions are in the Middle East.  Temperatures can top 140 degrees in the summer months.  These neck ties are a simple way to show love to the troops.  They are essentially 'hugs' to put around the soldier's necks.  They send these care packages to say 'Thank You' to these men and women serving to protect us and our country.

About: Where There's Life, There's Hope

My name is Amanda Cox.  I'm 24 years old from Dallas, Texas.  I'm writing this blog to pay homage to so many wonderful organizations and causes available to us.  I'm going to highlight a new organization/cause every day and explain why they might be worth looking into.  I find that so many people forget that we are not all selfish beings.  America may be a very materialistic country, but I believe that people are inherently good.  I also believe that good conquers evil.  I hope this blog inspires you, and I encourage you to donate to the causes that interest you.  Please feel free to introduce me to worthy causes and I'd be happy to look into them.  I realize that not every cause or charity will apply to something you are interested in, but I encourage you to become involved in giving somehow.  Giving is always better than receiving.
