Campaign For Tobacco-Free Kids

A very near and dear topic to my heart--smoking is one habit that I absolutely am appalled by.  My grandfather died from lung cancer when I was about 10 years old.  I remember visiting him in the hospital and seeing him change from a man I admired and respected to an almost unnoticeable person suffering in a hospital bed.  He couldn't quit cigarettes.  I made a pact to myself that I would never smoke a cigarette--I would never put my body through that.

Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is a strong force in the fight against cigarettes.  Their mission is to encourage a future free from death and disease caused by cigarettes and tobacco.  They diligently work to make sure public policies are in place that will prevent kids from getting their hands on cigarettes.  They also try to help smokers quit and protect people from secondhand smoke.

Their web site is filled with so many useful facts that outline the dangers of tobacco.  Did you know that tobacco is the number one leading cause of preventable death in the United States?  Also, did you know that tobacco was responsible for killing more than one million people in the 20th century?
Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is here to prevent the use of tobacco--by encouraging graphic warning labels on cigarette boxes, by placing federal taxes on cigarettes, health care reform, etc.  One of the main reasons that this organization focuses on reaching youth is due to the statistics that say that over 90% of tobacco users begin smoking when they are teenagers.  You can get involved and tell people about the dangers of this problem and you can donate to this cause.  It's such a big problem in the world.  You can help make this world better--one less cigarette at a time.
